Salicylic Acid
Salicylic acid is a beta-hydroxy acid (BHA) renowned for its exceptional benefits in skincare, particularly for acne-prone and oily skin. Its oil-soluble nature allows it to penetrate deep into pores, effectively dissolving excess sebum, dead skin cells, and impurities that can lead to breakouts. By exfoliating both the skin's surface and inside pores, salicylic acid helps prevent clogging, reducing blackheads, whiteheads, and pimples. Additionally, it possesses anti-inflammatory properties, soothing redness and irritation associated with acne. Regular use can improve skin texture, minimize pore appearance, and promote a clearer, more even complexion. It’s also beneficial for treating mild hyperpigmentation and keratosis pilaris. However, those with sensitive skin should use it cautiously, starting with lower concentrations to avoid excessive dryness or irritation. Always follow up with sunscreen, as salicylic acid can increase sun sensitivity.
Glycolic Acid
Glycolic acid has earned its status as a cornerstone of modern skincare, particularly in the form of a concentrated serum. As the smallest molecule in the Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA) family, derived from sugar cane, it possesses a unique ability to penetrate the skin's surface deeply and effectively. Within a serum, this potent ingredient works as a multi-tasker: it gently dissolves the intercellular "glue" that holds dead, dulling skin cells on the surface, promoting rapid exfoliation and revealing the brighter, smoother, and more even-toned skin beneath. This process not instantly refines texture and diminishes the appearance of fine lines, sun damage, and mild hyperpigmentation but also enhances the skin's subsequent absorption of other beneficial products in your routine. Furthermore, by clearing away debris and unclogging pores, glycolic acid helps to prevent future breakouts, making it a valuable asset for those concerned with both aging and acne. Consistent use of a well-formulated glycolic acid serum can ultimately lead to a significant improvement in skin clarity, radiance, and overall texture, fostering a healthy and rejuvenated complexion.

Who can use Quinsia Salicylic Acid Serum?
Both men and women above the age of 20 can use this product.
Direction to use
- Oily & Acne-Prone Skin
Usage: Apply 2-3 times a week (or every other night if tolerated) to exfoliate and clear pores. Use after cleansing on dry skin, followed by a lightweight, oil-free moisturizer.
- Dry or Dehydrated Skin
Usage: Start with once a week to avoid irritation. Apply to damp skin to minimize potential dryness, followed immediately by a rich, nourishing moisturizer to lock in hydration. Glycolic acid can help shed flaky skin, but it may be drying—monitor for tightness or redness.
- Combination Skin
Usage: 1-2 times a week, focusing on the T-zone and areas with texture or congestion, while avoiding over-drying the cheeks. Follow with a balancing moisturizer to maintain hydration levels.
- Sensitive Skin
Patch test first! Opt for a low-concentration formula (e.g., 5% glycolic acid or less).
Usage: Start once every 10 days, gradually increasing to once a week if no irritation occurs. Apply over damp skin or buffer with a moisturizer to reduce potency. Avoid pairing with other exfoliants (like salicylic acid or retinoids) or harsh products. If stinging or redness occurs, rinse off after 5–10 minutes initially.
- Normal Skin
Usage: 2-3 times a week for brightening and refining skin texture. Always follow with SPF in the morning, as glycolic acid significantly increases sun sensitivity.
Patch Test
Before use a patch test is highly recommended.
Apply a small amount of the face wash to a discreet area, such as:
- Behind the ear
- Inner forearm
- Side of the neck (near the jawline)
- Avoid testing on active acne or broken skin.
Wash the area with the product, then rinse off as usual. Wait at least 24–48 hours to check for any delayed reactions.
FAQ
- Can it help with blackheads and whiteheads?
Ans: Yes! Salicylic acid penetrates pores to dissolve debris, reduces excess oil, preventing future clogging.
- Will it cause purging?
Ans: Yes, salicylic acid can cause purging (temporary acne flare-ups) as it speeds up cell turnover. This should subside in 2–6 weeks.
- Can pregnant and lactating mothers use this serum?
Ans: While a 2% concentration of salicylic acid in a wash-off cleanser is often considered low-risk, the combination of 2% salicylic acid and glycolic acid in a leave-on serum is generally not recommended for pregnant or lactating individuals due to the potential for increased systemic absorption; salicylic acid is related to aspirin, which in high oral doses is associated with pregnancy complications, and although the topical risk is considered low, most healthcare providers advise caution and recommend avoiding it altogether to eliminate any potential risk to the developing fetus or nursing infant, making it essential to consult your obstetrician or dermatologist before use.
